Creative Alliance has added a membership section to its website; this is where we are able to ask you about yourself, your individual practice, your interests and what sort of things you would like to see us offering in terms of new training opportunities. ARTS ON THE MOVE

 

Music, Visual Arts & Multi Media Artists wanted for forthcoming events

 

Birmingham City Council's Arts Team has two mobile arts units; multimedia high-tech vehicles which convert into spaces for arts activity with drop-down walls and extending floor sections. The benefits of mobile facilities are clear: they can be more flexible than static facilities in reaching excluded groups, and they can both work independently of built facilities or complement them.

 

We are looking for artists to work at outdoor events across the city between October 08 and March 09, to utilise these facilities.  We welcome innovative ideas and activities that will engage with the general public at events, incorporating different ages and families working together.

 

Possible artforms could include:

  • Video or Podcasting
  • Music
  • Design, visual arts and animation.
  • Telling stories through music and animation
  • Creating e-books
  • Photography / editing and manipulating images

 

The Mobile Units are equipped with: a laptop, plasma screen, PA system, DVD

player, cushioned seating and have disabled access.  They can be used in an enclosed or open format (weather permitting).

 

Artists will be booked for either full or half day sessions depending on events.

The fee for the work will be:

£85 – £100 half day session, £170 - £200 full day session (depending on experience)

There will be additional funds available for materials or additional equipment

 

 

All short listed artists must provide a current CRB and Public Liability insurance.

 

Please apply no later than Monday 22nd September by submitting a short tender outlining your artform and how you would utilise these resources at a community event. Please include 2 referees and a recent CV or company profile outlining relevant experience.

Plus International Design Festival

Artist Commissions

HYBRID

Plus is a unique festival showcasing all that is innovative, pioneering,
and novel in the world of graphic and typographic design.
It is a diverse event that encourages the participation of designers,
artists, craftsmen and makers from all disciplines, using in any medium,
whose work is based around word, language and letterforms.

Plus is a beneficiary of the Arts Council Grants for the Arts and as a
result is seeking to invite two artists, makers or crafts people to
exhibit experimental work that involves words and letterforms.

THEME

The theme of the 2008 Festival is Hybrid and work is sought around this
topic. Hybrid, has been chosen as the focus of this year's event as it
not only aptly describes Britain today but it also expresses the current
state of graphic communications. Britain is a hybrid community that
absorbs, transforms and transmits myriad influences from around the
world to create something new and exciting, but is still recognizably
British. Graphic and typographic design are also fusion disciplines that
amalgamate graphic languages from around the world and from across the
creative disciplines - often with surprising results. The 2008 Festival
seeks to expose the hybrid in design.

MEDIUM

In addition to paper-based work, artists may use other mediums and
environments: 2- or 3-dimentional; large-scale installations;
screen-based media; or site-specific work enabling the artist to explore
how the graphic arts reflect, blend and interact with the urban
environment and the community beyond. Work that uses alphabets other
than roman is particularly welcome reflecting the cultural diversity of
the graphic field.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Work is sought from across the national and international creative and
craft-based industries: fine art; letter making; calligraphy; ceramics;
jewellery; stone carving; silversmith; glass engraving; photography;
illustration; graffiti artists; multimedia; animation; computer games.
Applications are welcomed from individuals, institutions and
co-operatives; collaborative work between designers, artists and
craftspeople is encouraged.

THE AWARD

The successful applicants will each receive 1,500.00 towards the
creation and installation of their work, which will be exhibited at the
Plus International Design Festival, Birmingham, 5-8 November2007.

Artists' Brief

Expressions of Interest wanted for innovative arts-based project.

 

Full Potential Arts is an established, Birmingham-based arts organisation presenting

innovative and exciting project opportunities to young adults with experience of mental distress.

During the forthcoming months we will deliver Connect Through Art; a user-led early intervention initiative combining art practice and art therapy, for people with complex emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties, that will;

 

·         provide a structured, contained, time-scaled program to facilitate personal change

·         provide a participatory program in which service users are collaboratively involved

·         create a supportive yet challenging environment where participants can explore issues, thoughts, feelings and destructive behaviours in a more constructive and creative way

·         empower participants to take responsibility for their own actions and treatment

Hereford Photography Festival

Consultant Festival Director

6 month fixed term appointment

Fee: £15,000

 

The Trustees of the Hereford Photography Festival wish to appoint a Festival Director on a fixed term consultancy basis for 6 months in the first instance.  This would be offered as a permanent appointment to an interested candidate following a successful completion of the key outcomes of the brief and a performance review at the end of this period.  

 

The Festival is managed by the Board of Trustees, and is financed by major grants from its key funders, Arts Council England (ACE), The Elmley Foundation and Herefordshire Council. Some income is also generated from sponsorships.

 

The Consultant Festival Director will report directly to the Board of Trustees on the implementation of the key outcomes and tasks and will be responsible for ensuring that effective liaison takes place with the Chair, Board members, funding bodies, and other clients and stakeholders between meetings.

 

This appointment will be for a 6 month fixed term, at a total fee of £15,000.  The fee will be paid following a successful completion of the key outcomes of the brief and a satisfactory performance review at the end of this period, but may also be paid in one or more instalments against interim progress reviews by agreement with the Trustees.  Some administrative support will be available from an internship appointment (0.4 FTE) responsible for running the festival office and liaising with staff at Hereford College of Arts.

 

Following successful completion of the consultancy period the post of Festival Director would be offered to the appointee on a permanent basis.  The anticipated salary will be £32,000pa pro rata for a 0.8FTE appointment (£25,600pa).

 

The fee offered for this consultancy role will include all travelling, accommodation, and VAT charges required.  Any other expenses and purchases should be approved in advance by the Chair of Trustees or his/her nominee.

Please forward this to anyone who you think might be interested.

  Coventry's theatrical experimentalists Talking Birds have been handed the controls for the next PILOT, and, barring dangerous cross winds, will attempt to land a festive collection of untested performances at Birmingham's famous Custard Factory Theatre on the 18th December.

To that end, we're looking for theatre companies of nerve, wit, ambition, and strong stomachs (as home-made mince pies will be available in the green room).

If you have all, or some, of those things, as well as a 10 - 20 minute fragment of a show which you'd like to test out in front of a smart and supportive audience, then fill out an application form and let us know why you should be one of the FIVE lucky acts to feature in the region's most exciting and glamourous compilation nights. There's an actual fee too, as if further incentives were even necessary (though it's not massive, we're not the Opera House).

Open the door – a bell rings... do you smell gingery dhal or Polish bread? Behind the counter past the tightly packed shelves, is a second door - a TV murmurs: is it Coronation Street, or a Hindi movie? Who will serve you? Who else might you see there? What do they want?

The corner shop has been at the heart of community life for longer than we can remember. It is a place to meet, to gossip, and to buy our daily essentials. It is a place of work, a public space, but often also a home. It reflects our changing world, as well as holding memories of old.

As this long-loved institution begins to disappear from our streets, The Corner Shop – a performance set in the shell of a disused shop in the centre of West Bromwich - will take audiences on a rich journey down high streets and behind shop counters.

PERSONAL INVITATION: HAPPINESS, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, DIVERSITY

 

Hybrid is delighted to invite you to a space for discussion and dialogue on the above theme.  The first of two critical dialogues takes place on Monday the 29 September from 12.45 till 6.45pm at Birmingham Hippodrome.  We are delighted that Ed Vaizey MP, Shadow Minister for Arts will be speaking. 

 

Increasingly people recognise that happiness is not a simple matter of individual satisfaction but is dependent on the experiences of others.  Within these critical dialogues we hope to explore the dynamics between the highly current themes of happiness, social responsibility and diversity across the arts, business, and community fields.

 

How do we negotiate these themes individually and collectively? How can we better shape them to effect greater progress?

 

Group discussions, pitching sessions, symposia and networking will give valuable opportunities to share and inform perspectives on our challenges and potential.  An event not to be missed!
